I transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of Candis Ricks. Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were greatly saddened to learn of the untimely death of Candis Ricks on January 22, 2011, at the age of 29; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks, a highly regarded and dedicated Seasonal Field Vehicle Investigator, was tragically killed when her vehicle was struck while'she was performing her duties on the Overnight Parking Ban in the Department of Streets and Sanitation's Bureau of Traffic Services; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Chicago, Candis Ricks was born on January 25lh, 1981, the second child of six and the only daughter to her parents, David and Brenda Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks attended Frazier Elementary School and graduated from Manley Career Academy and later studied at East-West University, all located in Chicago; and
WHEREAS. Prior to starting work for the City of Chicago, Candis Ricks held managerial positions with FedEx and American Airlines; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks began working as a Seasonal Field Vehicle Investigator in January of 2010 in the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation, and she quickly earned the respect and friendship of her colleagues and supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks was extremely devoted to her family, especially her two children. She dedicated her life to raising them and to providing them with the best education possible; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks is survived by her loving parents, David and Brenda Johnson; her dear young children, Caylan and Jordan; her fiance, Devon Williams; her five brothers, Jarvis, David Jr., Curtis, Justin and Darius; her grandmother, Martha Johnson; her great-uncle. Jesse Scott Jr. and a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, Candis Ricks will be remembered as a dedicated mother, a loving daughter, and a thoughtful and caring person who brought joy to all who had the good fortune to know her and the privilege to work with her; now, therefore,
BE FT RESOLVED, That we. the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby extend to the family and friends of the late Candis Ricks our deepest condolences and express our most heartfelt sorrow upon their loss; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to the family of Candis Ricks as a sign of our sympathy and respect.
