WHEREAS, The Chicago Summer Business Institute ("CSBI") is an Illinois not-for-profit charitable organization which provides paid summer internships, business and financial literacy education and scholarships to Chicago high school students; and
WHEREAS, Guided by its mission statement: "Preparing Today's Students To Become Tomorrow's Leaders," CSBI's objective is not simply to provide jobs to students but is also to positively influence and equip them for a better future; and
WHEREAS, CSBI provides a six-week paid internship program to Chicago high school students each summer. These internships take place at various banks, and law, accounting and engineering firms throughout the Loop and business districts. In conjunction with a 24-hour workweek, students attend half-day classroom seminars and workshops each week where they learn about financial markets, attend seminars given by successful business executives, and participate in team-building programs; and
WHEREAS, The CSBI internship program not only gives each student an-opportunity to attend work and gain valuable insight into their futures, but also promotes relationships with potential mentors and future employers; and
WHEREAS, To be eligible for the CSBI's internship program a student must be a resident of the City of Chicago currently attending a public, charter, parochial or private high school, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, be a rising Junior or Senior at the start of the program, and come from a low-to-middle-income household. Furthermore, applicants must submit a resume, letters of recommendation, high school transcripts and an essay and conduct interview with members of the Board of Directors and business professionals from the sponsoring firms; and
