Title: Congratulations extended to Dattalo Family and The Fudge Pot on 50th anniversary

RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, Chicago is justifiably proud of its status as the candy manufacturing capital of the United States, producing more fine candies than any other American city; and
 
WHEREAS, Chicago is home to many producers and purveyors of small-batch, artfully crafted chocolates and candies; and
 
WHEREAS, a favorite among such confectioners is The Fudge Pot, which this year celebrates 50 years as a premier chocolatier; and
 
WHEREAS, The Fudge Pot was opened in 1963 by second-generation candy-maker and chocolate enthusiast Jim Dattalo in a storefront on North Wells Street in Old Town; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Dattalo operated The Fudge Pot with his wife, Beverly, and their children, Debbie and David; and
 
WHEREAS, one unique aspect of The Fudge Pot was that the candies were made in an open area, visible to passersby, who were irresistibly drawn in by the rich aroma and beauty of the Dattalo family's confections; and
 
WHEREAS, the business and its product line grew because of the Dattalo family's devotion to the art of making superb chocolate and candies; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1976 David Dattalo took over primary responsibility for The Fudge Shop, and oversaw the expansion of the product line and, in 1999, a remodeling of the building; and
 
WHEREAS, David has been joined in the business by his sons, James and Jonathan; and
 
WHEREAS, Old Town in 1963 was an eclectic area of unique shops and entertainment venues, and has since undergone many changes; and
 
WHEREAS, amid all the changes in the community, there has been one constant: The Fudge Pot, operated by one family at the same location, in the same way, with the same delicious results; and
 
WHEREAS, the motto ofthe Fudge Pot is "Making Chicago Sweeter Since 1963" and the Dattalo family continue to live up to their motto; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this 11th day of December, 2013, do hereby congratulate the Dattalo family and The Fudge Pot for their 50 years of making Chicago a sweeter city, and we wish them continued success; and
 
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Mr. David Dattalo and his family as a token of our esteem and best wishes.
