RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE LIFE OF JAMES WALLACE FOREMAN JR.
WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has granted James Wallace Foreman, Jr., an outstanding citizen, beloved friend and vital member of his community, his eternal rest on Sunday, September 6, 2015;and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, James Wallace Foreman, Jr., born January 7, 1937 was the loving son of James W. Foreman Sr. and Doskey M. Pearson. He was the eldest of four children and was affectionately nicknamed "Wally" or "Jim" by his family and friends and later "Coach" by others; and
WHEREAS, Jim was raised in the Christian faith and was baptized at Bethel AME Church; moved his membership to St. James AME Church, and later became a faithful member of St. Ailbe Church. During his attendance at Carter Elementary School and Englewood High School Jim was involved in sports, but he was also a top student and was Englewood's senior class president. He earned his Bachelor degree from George Williams College and Masters degree from the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana; and
WHEREAS, Jim and the former Johnnie Garner were married during his college years and to this union two children were born, Christopher James and Sherri Belinda. In 1983, Jim married Veronica Lake (China) and they were blessed with a son, Tobias James; and
WHEREAS, James Wallace Foreman, Jr., a member of the Chicago Public Schools Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, a founding member of the Metropolitan Officials Association, an instrumental collaborator for "The Program" at the University of Chicago, a physical and health education teacher and a basketball coach, enriched the lives of the young and the old, he will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, His loving mother Doskey, his father, James Sr., his brothers, Alvin and Samuel and his niece, Thamese, having predeceased him, James W. Foreman, Sr. leaves behind to cherish his memory, celebrate his life and mourn his loss are: his beloved wife of 32 years, Veronica, sons, Christopher and Tobias, daughter, Sherri Belinda, a god child, Samuella (Evelyn), sisters, Sharon and Lita (Keith), special cousin Sylvia (William), three grandchildren, Jylian, Gilberto Tito, and Damien; two great grandchildren, Donovan and Jordyn; nieces and nephews, Alvin Jr., Darryl, Lisa, Weic, Algean II, John, Cheryl, Michael, Rochelle, Veronica, Raynese, and Christine; special loved ones, Christina, Kayla, Latasha and Morgan, a host of other relatives and a community of extended family and friends; and
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered here this 24th day of September, 2015 A.D., hereby express our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of James W. Foreman, Sr. and extend our condolence to all those who cherish his memory and mourn his passing.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of James W. Foreman, Sr.
