MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR CLEO MARAGOS
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Cleo Maragos, most beloved citizen of Chicago, to her eternal reward on December 2nd, 2018; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman ofthe 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Cleo Maragos (nee Maverick) was born on September 1st, 1924 in Peru, Indiana and was a proud graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Cleo and the late Honorable Illinois State Senator and Judge Samuel Maragos were married on May 28,1950 and blessed with four wonderful sons; and
WHEREAS, Cleo's pride in her family knew no bounds. They were the epicenter of her life along with her adoring husband. She leaves to cherish her memory, and spirit: her beloved children, Dean T. (Antonia, nee Vaselopulos), John, Dr. James (Mary, nee Kasimatis), and George (Dana, nee Dejanovich) Maragos; her precious grandchildren - Nicholas S. (Dawn), Michael, Alex, Andrew, Samuel, Nicholas G., and Anastasia Maragos; and her devoted sister Patricia Mavrick; and
WHEREAS, Cleo was a passionate and energetic member of many organizations in the Greek community, generously giving of her time, talent, faith, love, and kindness to those in need. Cleo was President of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society at the St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Chicago and the Greek American Rehabilitation & Care Center in Wheeling, IL. Each places where she touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all; and
WHEREAS, Cleo is remembered for her deep faith in God, her commitment and dedication to her family, her spirited and intelligent conversation, passionate, warm and giving heart. She was someone who brought light into whatever space she entered. She will live on in the memory of those who knew her, forever; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2018, do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family of Cleo Maragos; and
