Memorial Resolution for Henrietta Harrell

WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and mercy called Henrietta Harrell to her eternal home on July 17, 2017, at 8:59 a.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Henrietta Harrell's passing by the Honorable Raymond Lopez, Alderman of the 15th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta Burrows was the eldest of three children born to the late Rose and John Burrows on June 2, 1936. She had two sisters, Bonnie and Hattie Mae; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta moved to Chicago and shortly thereafter married Charles Maurice Harrell. They had six children: Lorraine, Lorenzo, Ronald, Charlene, Robert and Gerlaine. She worked at the Chicago Housing Authority for many years. Upon retirement, she became a foster mom through Catholic Charities. She eventually adopted one of her foster children, Anthony Dean Goldberg-Harrell. Henrietta was called Grandma by her grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta Harrell joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1990. She was a devoted member and served on the Pastor's Aid Committee; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta was very involved in her community. She served as an Election Judge for over fifty years. She was an active member of the 7th District's Neighborhood Watch and CAPS; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta often read several books in a week. She had a good sense of comedic irony. Henrietta was strong-willed with a wealth of survivor techniques developed as she persevered through hardships. She had a fertile imagination and old fashioned common sense; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and John Burrows; her sisters, Bonnie Burrows and Hattie Mae Burrows; and her husband, Charles Maurice Harrell; and

WHEREAS, Henrietta Harrell leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lorraine Harrell, Lorenzo Harrell, Ronald Harrell, Charlene Harrell-Jones, Robert Eugene Harrell, Gerlaine Candace Harrell-Wilcoxon (Leesundo); grandchildren, Eugene L. B. Harrell, Rachi Harrell, Tasha Harrell, Tameka Denea, Femi London (Tommy), Zigmond Warren, Nicole Warren, Keith Warren (Paula) and Christopher Warren; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Henrietta Harrell and extend to her family and friends our sincere condolences.
