RESOLUTION SALUTING A SILVER LINING FOUNDATION
WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Sandy Goldberg, a breast cancer survivor, founded A Silver Lining Foundation, a remarkable eleemosynary organization with the mission to ensure dignified, respectful and equal access to quality cancer education and services for all regardless of their socioeconomic status; and
WHEREAS, A Silver Lining Foundation funds the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition that provides counsel concerning cancer resources and treatment options, the Evelyn Goldberg Center (named for Dr. Goldberg's mother), a quality of life service for medically underserved individuals going through cancer treatment, and the "Buy A Mom A Mammogram" program that provides cost free screening mammograms and diagnostic follow up to individuals who otherwise would not be able to afford such tests, as well as "Keep A Breast", an interactive breast cancer awareness multimedia presentation designed specifically for young women between the age of 15 to 19 that makes the case for the vital importance of early detection; and
WHEREAS, On October 11, 2014 at a gala in the Hyatt McCormick Place, A Silver Lining Foundation will be presenting its annual Evy Award to Suzanne Zaccone who is the president of the Zaccone Family Foundation and author of "A Random Interruption: Surviving Breast Cancer with Laughter, Vodka, Smoothies, and an Attitude." She is also Executive Vice-Chairman and formerly President and co-owner of Graphic Solutions International, LLC, a global custom print house and a business she founded with her brother, Bob Zaccone. Together, they built a small company of three into an enterprise that employs 110 people and produces over $25 million in annual revenue; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, himself a cancer survivor, has apprised this august body ofthe significant accomplishments of this outstanding charitable foundation; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 8lh Day of October, 2014 AD, do hereby salute Dr. Sandy Goldberg and A Silver Lining Foundation for the significant and vital service they provide to our most vulnerable citizens, and express our heartfelt best wishes for continuing success for many years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That October 11, 2014 be declared "A Silver Lining Foundation Day" throughout Chicago in honor of the exceptional and unique contributions this noteworthy charity has made.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. Sandy Goldberg.
