Dear Mr. Reilly:
The Art Institute of Chicago owns and rents various properties in support of our mission as a not-for-profit institution serving Chicago. In past years, an ordinance has been approved that grants the Art institute an exemption from City permit and license fees. We request that an exemption be presented for 201 1-2012.
Enclosed is a copy of a 2009-2010 ordinance that provides exemption from city permit and license fees. We would appreciate it if you would propose an exemption ordinance for the Art Institute properties located at:
111 South Michigan Avenue and Grant Park Campus including 125 East Monroe Street, 159 East Monroe Street, 230 South Columbus Drive,
280 South Columbus Drive 210 South Columbus Drive 212 East Jackson Boulevard

We have issued your organization the following tax exemption identification number: E9980-5553-05.   To claim the exemption, you must provide this number to your suppliers when purchasing tangible personal property for organizational use.   This exemption may not be used by individual members of the organization to make purchases for their individual use.

Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Chicago:
SECTION 1. That the Commissioner of Buildings, the Executive Director of Construction and Permits, the Commissioner of Transportation, the Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation, the Commissioner of Environment, the Commissioner of Fire, the Director of Business Affairs and Licensing, the Director of Revenue and the Commissioner of Water Management are hereby directed to issue all necessary permits, all on-site water/sewer inspection fees and all water/sewer plan review fees, free of charge, notwithstanding other ordinances of the City of Chicago to the contrary, to The Art Institute of Chicago, a not-for-profit Illinois corporation, related to the construction and maintenance of building(s) at 111 South Michigan Avenue, 112 South Michigan Avenue, 116 South Michigan Avenue, 37 South Wabash Avenue, 162 North :State Street, 230 South Columbus Drive, 280 South Columbus Drive, 125 East Monroe Street, 212 East Jackson Boulevard and 7 West Madison Street.
Said building(s) and all appurtenances thereto shali be used exclusively for educational purposes and shall not be leased or otherwise used with a view to profit! and the work thereon shall be done in accordance with the plans submitted and all of the appropriate provisions of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago and departmental requirements of various departments of the City of Chicago, and said building(s) and all appurtenances thereto shall be constructed and maintained so that they shall comply in all respects with the requirements of the appropriate provisions of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago for the issuance of all necessary permits and licenses
SECTION 2. The Art Institute of Chicago, a not-for-profit Illinois corporation, engaged in educational activities, shall be exempt from the payment of city license fees and shall be entitled to the cancellation of warrants for the collection of inspection fees.

Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Chicago:
SECTION 1. That the Commissioner of Buildings, the Commissioner of Transportation, the Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation, the Director of Revenue, the Commissioner of Fire, the Commissioner of Water Management and the Zoning Administrator are hereby authorized and directed to waive all necessary building permits fees, all on-site water/sewer inspection fees, and all water/sewer plan review fees.'. notwithstanding other ordinances of the City of Chicago to the contrary, to the Association House of Chicago, a not-for-profit Illinois corporation, related to the erection rehab and maintenance of a building at 1116 North Kedzie Avenue.
Said building and all appurtenances thereto shall be used exclusively for charitable purposes and shall not be leased or otherwise used with a view of profit, and the work thereon shall be done in accordance with plans submitted and all of the appropriate provisions of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago, and said building and all respects with the requirements of the appropriate provisions of the Municipal Code for the City of Chicago for the issuance of all permits and licenses
SECTION 2. Association House of Chicago, a not-for-profit Illinois corporation located at 1044 North Francisco Avenue, engaged in medical, educational and related activities, shall be exempt from payment of city license fees, and shall be entitled to the cancellation of warrants for the collection of inspection:fees ;
SECTION 3. Association House of Chicago shall be entitled to a refund of city fees that it has paid and from which it is exempt pursuant to Sections 1 and 2 of this ordinance.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force hereinafter its passage and publication but in no event beyond December 31, 2009.
