WHEREAS, Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom and Judgment has called his faithful servant, beloved friend and citizen, Charles Butler Evins, Jr. home to his eternal rest and everlasting peace, on December 9,2015 at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been notified of this fine citizen's transition by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Bom on February 27, 1946 in Chicago, Charles Butler lit up the lives of his parents, Charles Butler Evins, Sr. and Merrimac Taylor Evins. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful, member of Jubilee Christian Methodist Episcopal Temple in Chicago. He sang in the youth choir at Jubilee and participated joyously with the congregation. Charles later moved his membership to South Shore United Methodist Church and remained a faithful member until his transition; and
WHEREAS, Charles was a graduate of Carter Elementary and Englewood High School, received his B.S. in Elementary Education from Tennessee State University and furthered his education at Roosevelt University with a M.A. Degree in Guidance and Counseling; and
WHEREAS, Charles Butler Evins, Jr. had matured into a fine young man full of moral excellence and righteousness. He and the former Lillie Adkins were united in Holy Matrimony on August 12, 1978 and to this union one son, Marvin was born; and
WHEREAS, Charles was a dedicated teacher who taught at Sherman and Armour Elementary School for 37 years. He retired in 2005 to spend more quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, sports and attending Chicago's Bull's games; and
WHEREAS, Besides his lovely wife, Charles Butler Evins, Jr. leaves to celebrate his life one son, Marvin; brother, Barton T. Evins (Frances); a special niece, Autumn Evins; special cousin, LaJune Clarke; sisters-in-law, Agnes Atkins and Mary Reynolds; brother-in-law, Jessie Adkins (Shirley) and a host of other relatives and many friends; now, therefore
Be it Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled here this 13th day of January 2016 A.D. do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Charles Butler Evins, Jr., and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mrs. Charles Butler Evins, Jr. and family.
