RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Kandi "KC Conda, an entrepreneur, speaker, author, community coordinator and a woman of vision, was inducted into the African American Hall of Fame on February 22, 2104 as the first African American woman to manage a women's professional basketball team; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised of this notable achievement by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman ofthe 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, in 1992 'KC, respectively known by many, previously unaffiliated with the sports industry or professional basketball, took an entrepreneurial risk by purchasing The Chicago Twisters Professional Women's Basketball team (WBA), and assumed the role of Director of Operations/General Manager. A savvy businesswoman, capable of thinking on her feet, and a tried and true Chicagoan, KC embodied the definition of hard work and successfully promoted, banded, and brought to success her team; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, she was honored at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield for being the first African American Woman to manage a Women's professional basketball team, earning an authentic basketball championship ring; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to inspire others with her journey to success, and popularly recognized as a trailblazer, "KC" traveled the world speaking about her 17 year journey to the Hall of Fame, motivating women and entrepreneurs and using her diverse professional experiences in the United States Air Force, the State of Illinois, and the Illinois Institute of Entrepreneurship Education to connect with people of all professional backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, truly a woman of many talents, KC has had work published in the Chicago Defender, Peoria News, The Crusader Magazine, has been featured in many interviews, blogs and news outlets, and her work can be found in over 200 schools around the country; and
WHEREAS, wishing to extender her professional capabilities to help others, KC established her own business, "KC THE BIZ BOSS" and became a successful motivational speaker, business coach, personal branding expert, and consultant; and
WHEREAS, her propensity for mentorship of others extended to her very own family, and she assumed the role of manager for the career of her daughter, Demi Lobo, a popular WGCI 107.5FM Chicago radio personality. She also works closely in her community with youth and principals as an advocate of entrepreneurial and entertainment business education; and
WHEREAS, for years, Kandi "KC Conda has fortified the realms of entrepreneurship, entertainment, consulting, coaching and championing those in need of support and expertise. Her passion is to encourage others to challenge themselves with empowering motivational tools, and she is an inspiration to many in her community and around the country; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled'this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby honor and congratulate Kandi "KC" Conda on her outstanding success and hard work in the community; and
