Resolution for John B. Oldershaw, M.D.

 

WHEREAS, The members of the Chicago City Council wish to recognize the many accomplishments and the passing of John Bramley Oldershaw, M.D.

 

WHEREAS, John Oldershaw departed this present life on Saturday, April 10, 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of his passing by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, John Oldershaw is survived by his wife Angela, siblings Robert and Sandy, children John, Mary, Dominic, Caroline, Bob, and Jane, mother of his children Carol, grandchildren Robert, Julia, and Audrey, siblings-in-law William and Kathleen, sons-in-law Charles and Bradley, daughters-in-law Susan and Sheila, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents Hallock and Gertrude, sister Mary, and infant son Charles Anthony; and

 

WHEREAS, John Oldershaw's boundless energy and desire for knowledge allowed him to receive his M.D. from Loyola's Stritch School of Medicine, serve in the US Navy as a surgeon in the Vietnam War and the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, teach as a professor at both the U of I College of Medicine and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, earn a JD at John Marshall Law School, and an LLM at DePaul University for medical law; and

 

WHEREAS, John Oldershaw was a man of many talents and interests including neurosurgery, swimming, law, medicine, skiing, playing the banjo and many other instruments, and avidly following the Chicago Cubs. His desire for adventure led him to these many talents and traveling around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, John Oldershaw was a man dedicated to helping others, always offering a helping hand to students in need of a mentor, fellow co-workers who became life-long friends, and to others on medical trips abroad; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of June 23, 2021, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of John Oldershaw and extend to his family and friends, our deepest sympathy; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Oldershaw.
