WHEREAS, Gregory Maurice Minniefield, brother, father, and grandfather, has passed away at 76 years of age; and ,
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Gregory's passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Gregory was born in September 26, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois and was the oldest son of Louise and Perry Minniefield; he received his education from Farragut High School, even though he often attended Crane and Marshall reunions, and finished his education with Phoenix and Roosevelt University earning his degree in business administration; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1968, Gregory served in the United States Army and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged; when hereturned to the City in 1970, he became a precinct captain of the 29th Ward and that is where his love of politics was born; and
WHEREAS, Gregory's strength was being the voice for those who were trying to find their own; a great conversationalist who could make anyone feel comfortable, Gregory was relied upon by many and never shied away from anyone; and
WHEREAS, An independent and proud man, Gregory was a multitalented person who succeeded in anything he put his mind to; he held several positions with the State and the City, and served under Mayors Richard J. Daley, Jane Byrne, Harold Washington, and Richard M. Daley; and
WHEREAS, Gregory married the love of his life, Lorene Hill, and he had four daughters, who were his pride and joy, the apples of his eye; he enjoyed the simple things in life including spending time with his family, hosting celebrations-and reunions;; playing sports or coaching them, and good pizza, movies, and music; and
WHEREAS, Gregory is preceded indeath by his brother, Bradley Minniefield; and his daughter, Karen L. Hubbard; he leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Barbara Williams; his brothers, Michael Minniefield, and DarryI Minniefield; his children, Ingrid C. Cooks ("Tresa" Darnell), Lena G. Minniefield, and Brittany Minniefield; his grandchildren, Candice, Jeanae, Brad, Wynton, Morgan, Jade, Jay la, Craig, Sana'a, and De'Lani; his great grandchildren, Skyler, Malayah, Chloelle, Roger, Storm, Deontay, and Ricks; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends; and
WHEREAS, Gregory will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifteenth day of December, 2021, do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Gregory Maurice Minniefield; and
