RESOLUTION HONORING DAVID R. RAMOS, PRESIDENT OGDEN INTERNATIONAL LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL FOR 23 YEARS OF SERVICE
WHEREAS, The Chicago School Reform Act of 1988, created the local school councils for all Chicago Public Schools. The local school council are elected representatives of parents, community residents, teachers, and, in high schools, students, principal; and
WHEREAS, The local school council primary responsibilities is to select and evaluate the school's principal, renew the principal's contract, develop, monitor, and approve the school's improvement plan, and the school's budget for the school year and carry out other important functions at the local school level; and
WHEREAS, On September 8,1997, David R. Ramos was nominated by the parents, community representatives, teachers and principal to fill a parent vacancy at the Ogden Elementary School of Chicago. Additional Ramos children became of age and entered Ogden Elementary, while Ramos oldest son Nicholas graduated from Ogden to attended Lincoln Park High School; and
WHEREAS, On April 11, 2006, David R. Ramos won two Chicago elections on the local school councils serving as a parent at both Ogden Elementary School and Lincoln Park High Schools; and
WHEREAS, On July 12, 2006, during an organizational meeting, Ramos was nominated by his peers to serve as vice-president of the local school councils at Ogden School and Lincoln Park High Schools representing the parents at both institutions; and
WHEREAS, On April 16, 2014, Vice-president David R. Ramos ran for and won a seat on the Local School Council Advisory Board representing Network 6, which has 33 Chicago Public Schools with the highest number of votes citywide; and
WHEREAS, On August 24, 2014, Vice-president David R. Ramos was nominated by his peers on the local school council advisory board to serve as its board secretary; and
WHEREAS, On July 9, 2018, David R. Ramos was nominated by his peers to serve as president ofthe Ogden International School of Chicago; and due to his youngest son Joshua graduating from Ogden International High School on June 14,2019, by the rules governing the local school council, David R. Ramos will have to step down as a parent representative after serving 23 years on the LSC; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor, the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, on behalf of the residents of Chicago, do hereby commend and offer their heartfelt gratitude to President David R. Ramos for his unwavering 23 years of dedication and commitment to the Chicago Public Schools; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceeding of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to Ogden International School of Chicago LSC President David R. Ramos.
