Ladies and Gentlemen:
 
I transmit herewith a congratulatory resolution concerning Colleen Marie Nolan, Chicago's entrant in the 2014 International Rose of Tralee Competition.

RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, Chicago's own Golleen Marie Nolan has earned the honor of participating in this year's Rose of Tralee Selection, an annual celebration ofthe aspirations, ambitions, intellect, and social responsibility of modern young women of Irish heritage; and
 
WHEREAS, The Rose of Tralee Festival, an international event celebrated among Irish communities the world over, is held in the town of Tralee, one ofthe many jewels of southeast Ireland; and
 
WHEREAS, The festival takes its inspiration from a famous nineteenth-century ballad about a "lovely and fair" woman named Mary, who earned the sobriquet "the Rose of Tralee" not only because of her beauty, but also "the truth in her eyes ever dawning;" and
 
WHEREAS, The Rose of Tralee Festival culminates with the crowning of the "Rose," the contestant deemed best suited to serve as an ambassador for the festival and for Ireland during her travels around the world; and
 
WHEREAS, Each ofthe 32 counties in Ireland is represented in the Rose of Tralee Selection, as well as international candidates from cities around the world, including, among many others, Boston, Chicago, Dubai, London, Leeds, Newcastle, New York, New Orleans, Perth, Philadelphia, Queensland, San Francisco, Sydney, and Toronto; and
 
WHEREAS, Our city's 2014 representative, Colleen Marie Nolan, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2010, where she served as President ofthe Irish Step Dance Team. Ms. Nolan currently works as a certified public accountant at Grosvenor Capital Management; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Nolan is extremely active in Chicago's Irish community, serving on the Young Leaders Steering Committee of American Ireland Fund and as Vice President of Sponsorship on the Executive Board ofthe Young Irish Fellowship Club; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Nolan is also very involved in her Parish, Old St. Patrick's, which is sponsoring her participation in the Rose of Tralee festivities; and
 
WHEREAS, Chicago has a proud and successful history at the Rose of Tralee Selection, boasting the 1960 Rose, Theresa Kenny, and the 1987 Rose, Larna Canoy; and
 
WHEREAS, We are supremely confident that Ms. Nolan will represent Chicago with aplomb and wish her every success in this year's selection; now, therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 30th day of April, 2014, do hereby heartily congratulate Colleen Marie Nolan on being selected to participate in the Rose of Tralee Festival; and
