RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On November 9, 2016, the Northern Illinois University Huskies Football Team will play a game against the University of Toledo at Guaranteed Rate Field (currently named U.S. Cellular Field until November 1), home ofthe Chicago White Sox. This will be the first time a college football game is played at White Sox Park; and
WHEREAS, The NIU Huskies play football in the Mid-American Conference (West Division), where they have had much success during the last 15 years; and
WHEREAS, The Huskies have won ten MAC West Titles (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), four MAC Championships (1983, 2011, 2012, 2014) and have appeared in eleven bowls, including the Orange Bowl (2013); and
WHEREAS, Led by Head Coach Rod Carey, the Huskies look forward to a big victory on November 9 in front of a large crowd of NIU students and alumni. Such events promote school unity and pride and reconnect alumni with their alma mater; and
WHEREAS, The event is made even more special by the fact that the White Sox are a major supporter of NIU, and the school appreciates playing in a world-class facility like U.S. Cellular Field; and
WHEREAS, Northern Illinois University, located in DeKalb, was chartered in 1895 and has an enrollment of 20,000 students. NIU has more than 200,000 alumni, 125,000 of whom live in the Chicago area; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby declare November 9, 2016 to be Northern Illinois University Day in Chicago. We congratulate Northern Illinois University for the many contributions of its alumni to the Chicago Metro Area. We wish the NIU Huskies "Good Luck" in their upcoming football game on November 9 against the University of Toledo at Guaranteed Rate Field; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Douglas D. Baker, President of Northern Illinois University, as a token of our good wishes.
