WHEREAS, God in his Infinite Wisdom has called Celestine Jakes, most beloved citizen, to her eternal reward on January 9, 2020; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Sophia King, Alderman of the 4th Ward; and
WHEREAS, The adored daughter ofthe late Reverend Johnnie James, Sr. and the late Callie Jakes, she had nine siblings. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Celestine attended Lakeview High where she cherished the relationships she had with her close friends. Her loyalty and honesty was admired by many others. After giving birth to two wonderful children: LaChrisia Nannette, LaShawn Bernard, and accepted a child of her heart, Davionne Brown, Celestine became a dedicated mother who raised her children in faith, and instilled the importance if God through Jesus Christ. Additionally, Celestine had sons for whom she did not birth but claimed them as her own: Quincy B. Banks, Pastor Delbert Earl Wright, Dr. Charley Hames, Jr., and Dr. S. Todd Yeary; and
WHEREAS, Celestine leaves to cherish in her memory her children LaChrisia Nannette, LaShawn Bernard, and Davionne Brown. She also leaves many friends and community members to mourn her loss; and
WHEREAS, Preceding her in death, were her three sisters and two brothers, Betty Chapman, Cora Dandredge, Margaret Sledge, Pastor Paul L., and Johnnie James; and
WHEREAS, Celestine touched the lives of all who knew her through her unconditional love and vivacious spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character and compassion will live on in those who new and love her; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this nineteenth day of February, 2020, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Reverend L. Bernard Jakes; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies ofthis resolution are presented to the Jakes family as a sign of our sympathy and respect.
