to be adopted by The City Council
ofthe City of Chicago, Illinois
Resolution Celebrating the 70th Birthday of Reverend Robert L. East and Honoring his 35 years of Pastoral Ministry
 
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that members of this Chamber congratulate Reverend Robert L. East, an outstanding citizen and member of his community;
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his 70th birthday and of his 35 years in pastoral ministry by Willie B. Cochran, Alderman of the 2011' Ward;
 
WHEREAS, He is married to Mrs. Barbara J. East, a devoted father offour children and a grandfather of five;
 
WHEREAS, Reverend Robert East has been an ordained minister for 45 years;
 
WHEREAS, Since founding the Liberty Temple Church of God in Christ. Reverend East has provided ministry to congregants through 20 in-house ministries to men, women and children;
 
WHEREAS, His dedication to community improvement and development is astounding. Through his service to the West Englewood community, countless community members have gained access to food, clothing and housing. He established Bishop Shepard Little Memorial Center in 1999 to deliver services like tutoring, mentoring, youth employment, computer literacy and cultural enrichment to more than 250 youth annually;
 
WHEREAS, Reverend East has worked tirelessly to establish the Ruth and Bo Housing facility and a second adjacent emergency housing facility for single mothers, their children and singles transitioning into employment and education;
 
WHEREAS, Reverend East is still continuing his excellent work. He plans to expand the ministry, as well as erect a Bishop Shepard Little Memorial Community center to address and impact the needs of local community residents;
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 5th Day of February, 2014 AD, join in celebration with Reverend L. East; and

the family of Reverend L. East.
