SALUTE TO CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY
PRESIDING JUDGE WILLIAM D. MADDUX
WHEREAS, On Wednesday January 8, 2014, the Honorable William D. Maddux, a Presiding Judge of the Circuit Court, will be feted at a reception marking his retirement from the bench at the Plymouth Court headquarters of the Chicago Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, Since 2001, Judge Maddux has served as presiding judge of the Law Division. His retirement marks the pinnacle of a remarkable career as both trial lawyer and judge. After graduating from Notre Dame University in Indiana, he obtained his juris doctorate from Georgetown Law Center in 1959 and commenced a 31-year career as a litigator who has tried 250 cases ending in a jury verdict. 68 of these cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, were argued before the Appellate and Supreme Courts in all areas of the law; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as a judge, the Honorable William D. Maddux heard cases in both the Cook County Circuit Court Juvenile and the Law Divisions. He is an esteemed member of The Chicago Bar Association as well as the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Society of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, Aside from his illustrious career on the bench, Judge Maddux has successfully undertaken many worthy civic activities, contributing his time and expertise to Boys Town in Nebraska and the Supreme Court Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of the significant milestone achieved by the Honorable William D. Maddux; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together on this 15th Day of January, 2014, do hereby salute the Honorable William D. Maddux for his noteworthy career as an outstanding attorney and jurist and extend our very best wishes for his continued health, happiness and success in al his future endeavors.
