WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members ofthis Chamber learned of the homegoing of Martha Lee Turner; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Walter Burnett, Jr.; and

 

WHEREAS, Martha Lee Turner was born in Shaw, Mississippi on March 19, 1939, the second of four children born to the late Martha Collins-Turner and Calvin Turner; and

 

WHEREAS, She was employed at Wm. Hall Printing Company, Brach's Candy Company, Schwinn Bicycle Company, and the Chicago Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Martha was known to her family and friends as "Ma", "Momma Turner", "Ba Ba", and "Ba"; and

 

WHEREAS, Martha was a very devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, surrogate mother, and friend. She worked hard to care for her family as well as a host of others who touched her heart. She gave love to those in need of love and she stood ready to offer a hot meal and a warm place to sleep when there was none; and

 

WHEREAS, Although, Martha dedicated her life to her very large and ever expanding family, she still found time to play bingo weekly and if she could, she would have played every day; and

 

WHEREAS, Martha is survived by:

 

Children: Engineer Alvin Turner Sr.-Retired, ENG 72; Captain Roy Turner Sr., ENG 104 (Rita); Walter Turner-Mechanic Foreman/Fleet (Jean); Lou; Evelyn; Daisy (Ron); Sherri; Mary; Alonzo; and Robert and Raymond (deceased).

 

Siblings: Clarence Turner and Pearlie Gayles.

 

Grandchildren: Nicole; Felicia (Les); Al Jr.; Alauna (Anthony); Luciana; Annalisa; Alexus; Brian Sr.; Terrance (LaKeisha); Tameesha; Robert Jr.; Eric; Mark; Roy Jr.; Ryan; Rhandi; Rynesha; LaFaye; Kelvin; Veronique (David); Alexander; Ron Jr. (Marie); Martin (Tamika); Jasmine; Shakia; Antwaun; Raechelle; JoVanni; London; Nicolette; Issac; Kobina; Christopher; Justin; and Raechal.

WHEREAS, Martha will be sorely missed, her loving and giving nature will be remembered and live on in the mind and hearts of those who knew her and loved her; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor, and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled here this Twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby express our sincerest condolences to her many family, friends, and others whose lives she touched; and

 

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to the family of Martha Lee Turner.
