MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR EVORN BRADFORD

 

WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Evorn Bradford, most beloved citizen, to her eternal reward on March 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and

 

WHEREAS, Born on January 13, 1939 in Brownville, Tennessee, Evorn Bradford, one of sixteen children, was a devoted daughter to (the late) Frank Harper Sr. and (the late) Lady B. Bond-Harper. Evorn accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful servant to the Lord. She became a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Brownville, Tennessee; and

 

WHEREAS, As a young adult, Evorn left the comfort of home to forge a life of her own and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There she met the love of her life, Eugene Bradford, Sr. and married on September 26, 1959. They were blessed with five beautiful children. Evorn made it a priority for family to spend quality time together; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1963, they relocated to Chicago, Illinois. Family was the center of Evorn's life. She was a nurturing, caring, and doting mother with strong morals, believing that family fellowship was important and education was essential. Evorn also believed in community involvement, she helped establish the 118th and Perry Block Club, served as a Precinct Captain and was a dedicated member of the 34th Ward Mature Seniors. She was often regarded as the "Roseland Community Activist"; and

 

WHEREAS, Evorn worked for the City of Chicago in the Department of Inspection. Deciding to further her education she enrolled in the "Debbie's Beauty School". After graduating, Evorn became the owner and proprietor of "Evorn's Showcase of Beauty" where she ministered and styled many women for over 20 years. She was well known throughout Chicago and surrounding areas for her fashion shows, style and grace. Clients and friends treasured her kind heart and valued her advice; and

 

WHEREAS, Evorn leaves to cherish her memory; children, Paris (Ernest Jr) Brumfield, Pamela (Peter) McDonald, Eugenia Bradford, Sylvia (Richard Jr) Hodge, Eugene Bradford Jr.; stepchildren, Arletha Scales and Michael Scales; grandchildren, Shawndus, Chelsea, Rashad, Korla, Richard III, Bria, Morgen, Dustin, Lynda, Nicholas, Makayla, Kristina, Eugene III; step grandchildren, Willie and Michael Jr and great-grandchildren, Neveah, Serenity, Tyrese (Skip), Mackenzie and nine step great grandchildren; sister, Lady F. Shaw; brothers, Alfred (Teretha) Harper, Purtis (Mattie) Harper, and Frank, Jr. (Charlotte) Harper; brother-in-law's, Lemon Bradford Sr. and Curtis Cliff; sister-in-law's, Virgie Bradford, Ida Pearl Black, Catherine Bradford, Mattie Bradford, and Margarite Bradford; many nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews and a host of extended relatives and friends; She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bradford Sr.; siblings, Gency Bond, Mary Ruth Cliff, Alfreda Jordan, Laura Reed, Jaunita Stafford, Daniel Harper, Walter Harper, Peter Harper, Clarence Gilbert, Rev. Fred Lee Harper, Ezekiel Harper and Isaac Harper; and

 

WHEREAS, Evorn touched the lives of all who knew her through her love and caring spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Evorn Bradford.
