City Council Meeting January 21, 2015
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ashod Baboorian, known affectionately to everyone as Mr. Ash, moved into the 40th ward in 1969 and in 1985 opened Ash's Magic Shop in Lincoln Square; and
WHEREAS, Around 1970, Mr. Ash became intrigued with the idea of magic and began attending meetings of various amateur magic clubs and found that magic suited his comedic talents and desire to entertain people; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Ash appeared on many television stations including performing on Bozo's Circus in eleven appearances wearing a robe and a gold turban, every year on Channel Seven's cerebral palsy telethon, on every major television channel in Chicago, and once a month for a year on Channel 26 Spanish language entertainment programming; and
WHEREAS, Articles about Mr. Ash and his magic show have appeared in many publications including a front page in The Reader in 2000 where he was referred to as The Amazing Mr. Ash, The Chicago Tribune's Tempo Section in 2008 which was the last Tempo Section ever printed, the Medill Paper in 2002, and Chicago Magazine called Mr. Ash a "Living Legend in the World of Magic"; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ash performed his magic show for every governor since Governor Ogilvie, except Governor Blagojevich and during Congressman Rostenkowski's tenure in office performed at his Christmas parties every year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ash is also very civic minded and involved with the Republican party and is proud of the fact that he served one-term as Republican Committeeman of the 40th Ward after winning the election in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Whether Mr. Ash is performing his magic at his first of six to eight parties scheduled in a day for anything from children's birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, surprise 65th birthday parties, or Christmas parties for offices and elected officials, Mr. Ash's objective is to entertain the crowd and anyone who's ever seen one of Mr. Ash's magic shows knows that's exactly what he does and consider him to be Chicago's Finest Magician; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor ofthe City of Chicago and members ofthe City Council, gathered this 21st day of January, 2015, take this opportunity to recognize the years of laughter and awe Mr. Ash has provided to young and old alike; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented
to Mr. Ash.
