MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND MEMORY OF SERGIO JESUS ESCOBEDO

 

WHEREAS, Sergio Jesus Escobedo, veteran of the Chicago Police Department, musician, community volunteer, and loving family man, passed away on December 4, 2020, at the age of 59; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed Sergio's passing by the Honorable Michael D. Rodriguez, Alderman ofthe 22nd Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on April 27, 1961, Sergio was a true Chicagoan who grew up in the 22nd Ward - where his mother still resides - and was a friend to all in his community, including Alderman Rodriguez's family; and

WHEREAS, Sergio attended St. Rita High School, before graduating from the University of Chicago and marrying his sweetheart Maria in 1993; and

 

WHEREAS, A 29-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, Sergio received over 50 department awards, as well as numerous certificates in policing throughout his career; he worked in the 10th District, a place he loved, serving the residents and the community as a whole; and

 

WHEREAS, Though he spent much of his time serving the Chicago community as a member of CPD, he also served as a Trustee on the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7 Board of Directors from 2014-2020, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and started his own foundation called Hugs and Kisses that donated gifts to children in hospitals; and

 

WHEREAS, When he was not protecting or giving back to his community as a police officer or volunteer, Sergio enjoyed spending his free time playing music with his band, Midnight Grove, and unwinding in Orlando, Florida with his family over the summer; and

 

WHEREAS, Sergio was a pillar of his community and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew him; and

 

WHEREAS, Sergio is survived by: his wife, Maria; his son, Brandon; his daughters, Sophia, Erika, and Jennifer; his mother, Francisca; his sisters, Patricia and Francis; and numerous nieces and nephews; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this sixteenth day of December, 2020, do hereby honor the life and memory of Sergio Jesus Escobedo (Star # 11634) and extend our most heartfelt condolences to Sergio's family and friends; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Sergio Escobedo as a sign of our honor and respect.
