Title: Tribute to late Alma Meria Lane Green

WHEREAS, On Wednesday, February 5, 2013, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Alma Meria Lane Green to her eternal journey; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Alma Meria was born on November 14, 1922, in Forrest City, Arkansas, she was the first child bom to the union of James and Luella Crawford Lane. She moved to San Jose, California briefly while her husband served in the Navy; and
 
WHEREAS, She confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age at Sand Slough Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Mother Board. Alma was a faithful member until her health failed; and
 
WHEREAS, On December 25, 1940 at the age of eighteen she married S. D. Green. They were married for forty-nine years. This union was blessed with six children; and
 
WHEREAS, Alma was a very gifted and talented person. She was a self-taught seamstress; she enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, quilting, and fishing. Alma assisted her husband on their farm harvesting crops and raising livestock. She did volunteer work with the Poplar Grove Youth Recreation Center. She also provided childcare service for the community. She lived a blessed and spiritual life; and
 
WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, S. D. Green; her son, Ulysses; her loving parents, James and Luella Crawford Lane; six siblings, Edward P. Lane, J. P. Lane, Leardis Lane, James Lane, Frank Lane, and Allie Mae Haymer; and leaves behind to cherish her precious memories three sons, Leodis (Armelia) Green, Cleophas Green, and Cornell Green; two daughters, Lorease (Curtis) Love, and Alletha (Barry) Wilbum; one sister, Ledora Lacy; two brothers, J. W. (Lona) Lane, O. C. Lane; four sisters-in-law, Hattie B. Green, Willene Williams Sr., Vera Brown, and Lillie (James) Taylor; one brother in-law, Lorenzo Green; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-five greatgrandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this fifth day of March 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Alma Meria Lane Green and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to
the. family of Alma Meria Lane Green.
