RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, God in His infinite Wisdom has called William "Bill" James Carothers, most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward on April 5^th, 2017; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37^th Ward; and

WHEREAS, William Carothers was born on March 29^th, 1929, the fifth child of six, to Walter and Albenda Carothers, in Chicago, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Known to all as Bill, but affectionately entitled "Boss," was educated in the Chicago Public School system, attending Grant Elementary School, McKinley High School, and Theodore Herzel Junior College, now known as Malcolm X College; and

WHEREAS, Amongst his many careers, which included International Harvesters Company, I.C. Supermarket, and Habilitations Systems, Inc., Bill served the City of Chicago as the Alderman of the 28^th Ward and elected Ward Committeeman; and

WHEREAS, William was a member of the Original Providence Baptist Church for over sixty years and a trustee for over thirty years; and

WHEREAS, Left to treasure his life and memories is his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Roberta; sons, Isaac (Sharron), William Jr., and Anthony (Kathie); sisters-in-law, Anita, Cora, and Yvonne; son-in-law, Louis; three grandsons, five granddaughters, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, treasured friends, and his entire Original Providence family; Bill leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and

WHEREAS, William James Carothers was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Albenda Carothers, all of his siblings, son, Gregory, and daughters, Pamela and Colette; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this nineteenth day of April, 2017, do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of William James Carothers and extend to his family our sincere condolences.
