RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, On Sunday, September 27, 2014, family and friends will be in attendance at the Historic Villa District home of William and Vivian Rankin in celebration of Vivian's birthday; and,
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this joyful occasion by the Honorable Ariel E. Reboyras, Alderman of the 30th Ward; and,
 
WHEREAS, Born on September 30th, Vivian Rankin worked in the billing department at Sears during high school and continued working to put herself through college; and,
 
WHEREAS, Vivian Rankin, along with her husband, William, created Avondale Adventure. They manufactured Holey Cards, an arithmetic practice card that was used in developing "Common Core" standards in arithmetic, the Good Bookkeepers, a personalized desk accessory, and Dress Rite Forms, a custom body form used by several companies and celebrities; and,
 
WHEREAS, For thirty five years, Vivian Rankin has devoted her time in beautifying the Villa District by working with the railroad to erect a fence to divide a portion of the embankment for a community garden, landscaped with perennials and railroad tie planter boxes at the end of each street; and,
 
WHEREAS, Vivian Rankin devoted thirty five years to teaching special children in the Chicago Public Schools while earning her Ph.D. from Loyola University. Vivian's last position was the head the Home and Hospital Program which required her to schedule over 75 teachers each day to service ill and injured children and supervise their individual programs; and,
WHEREAS, Vivian and William were married in March of 1978, and continue to share their love aijfd, devotion for each other, their children and grandchildren; and,
 
WHEREAS(,.:Vivian Rankin is the loving mother of Heather Kedzierski, Amy Hansen, Aimee . Rartkin, aftd^William Rankin, and affectionate grandmother of Zoe, Nathan, Tory, Harmon, Luke 'and^eah; and,
WHEREAS, Vivian Rankin is a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend of many-and richly deserves the warm and fond wishes of her family and friends as she marks her birthday celebration; and now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of September, 2014, do hereby extend to Dr. Vivian Rankin our best and happiest wishes upon her birthday; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. Vivian Rankin.
