"tyQllBTGOlS , The tragic loss, on December 14, 2015 of Chicago Firefighter Daniel V. Capuano while battling a fire in a commercial building on South Baltimore Avenue is a sobering reminder to all Chicagoans of the grave danger that Chicago firefighters willingly confront on our behalf every day, and of the debt of gratitude that is owed to them by the citizens of this great City; and

 

WHEREAS, A dear friend and role model to his colleagues, Firefighter Capuano, age 43, was a fourteen-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Upon arriving at the scene of the fire, Firefighter Capuano immediately began a thorough search of the premises, looking for victims and seeking to determine the origin of the fire; and

 

WHEREAS, During that search, Firefighter Capuano was seriously injured. He eventually succumbed to his injuries, despite the valiant efforts of the firefighters and paramedics who immediately came to his aid; and

 

WHEREAS, Firefighter Daniel Capuano began his career with the Chicago Fire Department in April of 2001, working as a paramedic on some of the busiest ambulances in the City. In October of 2004, he became a firefighter and served once again with one of the busiest fire companies on the South Side; and

 

WHEREAS, Widely admired for his dedication, professionalism and valor, Firefighter Capuano was an exemplary public servant and human being, who will be sorely missed by his many friends in the Chicago Fire Department, but most especially by the firefighters he worked alongside at Tower Ladder 34, Engine Company 72, Ambulance 22 and Battalion 23; and

WHEREAS, An honorable, loyal and dependable man, who exemplified kindness and respect in word and deed, Chicago Firefighter Daniel Capuano was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend, who cherished his family above all else. In his free time, he loved to coach hockey and spend time with his children; and

 

WHEREAS, A hard working and principled person, who served the citizens of Chicago with dignity and honor, Firefighter Capuano will always be remembered as the consummate professional, and as a man whose legacy survives in the standard of excellence he set for himself and inspired in others and in the beautiful family he left behind; and

 

WHEREAS, Daniel Capuano is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Julie; their three wonderful and caring children, Amanda, Andrew and Nicholas; his loving parents, Michael and Jacquelyn; his dear brothers, Michael and Patrick; and countless other relatives and friends; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby honor the life and memory of Chicago Firefighter Daniel V. Capuano, and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chicago Firefighter Daniel V. Capuano as a token of our gratitude and esteem.
