TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF THOMAS JEFFERSON BRABOY SR,
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has called Thomas Jefferson Braboy, Sr., beloved citizen and friend, to his eternal reward on December 12, 2012 at the age of 104; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson Braboy, affectionately known as "T.J." started life on March, 6, 1908, to the late Grace Hall-Braboy and Tenna E. Braboy in Claiborne County, Mississippi. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the age of 12. Thomas, his two brothers and four sisters brought laughter and happiness into the Braboy Family; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson Braboy met and married his beloved wife of 52 years, the late Norma Ruth Butler. They were blessed with nine children: Thomas, Grace, John Henry, Edna Mae, Brenda Kay, Donald Ricky, Norma Jean, Edward and George Franklin; and
WHEREAS, Thomas was employed by the Anderson Teller Lumber Company in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In 1944 his brother-in-law Willie Allen persuaded him to go the Chicago and explore the possibilities for a better job. After two weeks he was employed with R.R. Donnelly Printing Company. He later moved his family to Chicago and made it their home, a place where the family enjoyed themselves with extended family members and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, In 1951 T.J. united with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and joined the Usher board, where he remained active until he became disabled. His favorite scriptures are John 14:1 and Matt. 7:1. T.J. Barboy was crowned "New Zion King" at the Church's Annual Banquet in 1989; and
WHEREAS, His wife, Norma Ruth, daughters, Brenda Kay, Edna Mae Wren, daughter-in-law Priscilla Braboy, son Thomas Braboy Jr., son-in-law Lurel Wren, sisters, Letitia Keys, Cora Anderson, Ozella Allen, Verlena Cheatwood, brothers, Poindexter Braboy Sr., and Edward Braboy, having predeceased him, Thomas Jefferson Braboy, Sr. leaves behind to mourn his loss and cherish his memory two daughters, Grace Garnett (Jerry), and Norma Jean Braboy, four sons, John Henry Braboy (Joliet), Donald Braboy (Michelle), Edward Braboy (Theresa), George Braboy (Aviva), grandchildren: Theodore (Mary), Clinetta, Susan (Don), Daniel, Becky, Brenda, Deborah, John Jr., Carolyn, Diane, Walter, Donald (Yolanda), Julian, Sha Vonda, Chloe (Oscar), Pierre (Megan), Basia, Georgio and Nahshon, special nieces, and many friends; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael D. Chandler, Alderman of the 24th Ward have informed this august body of the passing of Thomas Jefferson Braboy, Sr.; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered here this 17th day of January, 2013 A.D., do hereby express our sincerest sorrow on the passing of Thomas Jefferson Braboy, Sr. and extend to his family our deepest sympathy.
