RESOLUTION HONORING TEMPIE HELEN C. HARRISON MOTHER THOMAS ON THE MOMENTOUS OCCASION OF HER CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, February 2, 2014, marks the One Hundredth Birthday of Tempie Helen C. Thomas, one of Chicago's most beloved and respected citizens; and
WHEREAS, Tempie Helen C. was born to the loving union of Stewart and Lula Harrison. She was the forth of sic children who brought much love and joy into the Harrison Family home. She received her education through the Mississippi State Educational system. At an early age, Tempie accepted Christ as her personal savior and remains a true soldier of the Cross; and
WHEREAS, The former Tempie Helen C. Harrison and Sam D. Thomas were united in marriage in 1934 and was blessed with five children. The family moved to Tutwiler, Mississippi, but in 1951 the Thomas Family moved into the Woodlawn Community on the city of Chicago's Southside. In 1970 Tempie moved into her grateful Roseland Community where she still resides. Tempie worked in the domestic labor force where she worked until retiring; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Tempie who is an active member and the eldest living member of the Christian Missionary Baptist Church, serves in several auxiliaries of the Church including the Mothers and Mission Board. Her favorite saying is "Christianity is an active religion, anyone can talk but it's what you do for Christ that last"; and
WHEREAS, Tempie was affectionately known as "Mother Thomas" or "Madea" by her family and her many friends in the Roseland Community. Her kindness extended to numerous troubled and homeless youth throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, An enthusiastic, active and much-loved resident of Chicago's great 3411' Ward community, "Madea" will celebrate her Centennial Birthday, February 2, 2014, thereby reaching a milestone few are fortunate to achieve; and
WHEREAS, Devoted wife, mother, a cherished friend of many and good neighbor to all, Tempie Helen C. Harrison richly deserves the warm and fond wishes of her family members and friends as she marks her 100th Birthday; and
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirteenth day of November, 2013, A.D., do hereby express our congratulations to this outstanding citizen as she celebrates her Centennial Birthday and do hereby declare that February 2, 2014 shall be officially recognized as "Mother Thomas Day" throughout the city of Chicago.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Tempie Helen C. Harrison.
