TRIBUTE TO THE LA TE RE VEREND LEON JOHNSON

 

WHEREAS, On October 3, 2014, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Reverend Leon
Johnson to his eternal journey; and
                      ,,

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Michael Chandler) Alderman ofthe 24th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS j Rev. Johnson was born in New Orleans to parents Rev. Herbert Leonidas and Rachel Bryant Johson of Sunshine, Louisiana, to a loving; familywith many siblings; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson received a/Bachelor-of-Arts:.•irom-,D^Hard.ymybrsity-and a Bachelor of
Divinity the.University of Chicago, a. Master' s Degree, in Educational Administration from
Nprthwestern University, and completed all-course rt^
                     for a Master's.Degree iii Educational

Administration and Guidance and Couiiselihg; at^C,^y^iStiafe;;¥niversity and a Master's, Degree in
Philosophy of Religion at Garret Theological
■■Seminary                     and completed 18

hours postgraduate courses in Special Education ai.Nofmcastem Illinois University, Chicago, IL; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson held positiqns.as.Associate P.astqr^and Associate Minister in multiple
parishes,around Illinois and Ohio, served in numerous leadership positions in various riiinister and
pa'stor associations; served as a founding Director of Crystal Fountain Ministries, Inc., was a published
author, and made guest appearances iii variqjis' cqn^egation
                     in'the Southern

Caiifomiar^                     Johnson was alsq a public school teacher iii-Daytdn, Ohio, arid Chicago;

 

 

WHEREAS; Rev. Johnson's military .service included a tour of duty in Japan with the United States Air force; attending .Sophia University.in Tokyo, Japan and working as,a missionary during his service, arid received multiple c(>mmendations and riie'dals; and

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson was the recipient-of many awards                     Mold Award for

Bible.Reading:and'Literahire, Central-State'Mniy.ersity?-s. Sfct^t; Goveiiiment Award for contributing
the riiost.t'6:.theiives.ofCeritral State University's students, arid was selected by the Daiiforth
Foundation to receive its annual Campus Ministiy 'G^-arit for .being one .of the outstanding Ministers in
the country! These are but a few of the riiany awards Rev. Johnson has received      the course of his
life; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Johnson .was a dedicate husband and is survived by the'love ofhis life of 58 years, Dolores A. Johrisori, many children and grandchildren, and a vast extended family, close friends, and a community mat admired and respected him.as a mentor and'father-figure to riiany; now, therefore.

 

BE IT 'RESOL VED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this fifteenth day of April. 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing4f Reverend Leon Johnson arid extend td his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
