MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF ELIJAH SHEARED

 

WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his eternal reward and everlasting peace, Mr. Elijah Sheared, a beloved citizen and friend, Saturday, November 7, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been notified of this good and decent citizen's transition by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and

 

WHEREAS, Elijah, affectionately known as, "Sneaky Pete" by his family and friends, was born in Parkdales, Arkansas to his loving parents, Beatrice Perkins and Theary Dantzler. He was the eldest of four siblings who brought happiness and laughter into the home; and

 

WHEREAS, Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Elijah and the former Willie Mae "Honey" Hill were united in holy matrimony on December30, 1951. They moved to Chicago soon after the marriage to begin their family. To this loving and enduring union, two children, Michael Redell and Rita Michelle were born. Elijah and Willie Mae shared sixty-three years of marital bliss; and

 

WHEREAS, Elijah accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a faithful member of CBC Church under the leadership of Pastor Avery where he participated joyfully with the congregation. Elijah was a vital, active and respectable member of his church and community; and

 

WHEREAS, Elijah Sheared was a highly capable and dedicated employee for every one of his employers. He was a "Jack of all Trades". Elijah was the personal chauffer for the former President Clinton, the owner of Pete's limo services, owner of P&W Beauty Supplies, a chauffer to the late 8th Ward Alderman, Lorraine Dixon, security officer for Aargus Security, and an exceptional employee while working for Walgreen's and Arrow Plastic; and

 

WHEREAS, Elijah Sheared was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his family, music, dancing, cooking and bringing a smile to everyone he met. His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared him to his family members, friends and all who knew him and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Elijah Sheared leaves behind to mourn his loss and celebrate his memory his loving wife Willie Mae; son, Michael, daughter, Rita (Donel); sisters, Ida Mae Sheared and Armella Taylor; grandchildren, Chantelle, Michelle (Candido), Darius (Malika), Sydnee, Jordan, Amethia, Elithian (Carita); fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His sibling Etheary Belle Datzler preceded him in death; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled this 18th day of November 2015 A.D., do herby express our sincere sorrow at the passing of and extended our deepest condolences to his family, friends and people whose lives he touched.

 

Be It Further Resolved, That a'suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of

Elijah Sheared.
