I transmit herewith, together with Alderman Thompson, a congratulatory resolution concerning the Zhou Brothers.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, As Chinese Nationals and leaders of the Chinese Contemporary Art Movement in China, the Zhou Brothers, DaHuang and Shan Zuo Zhou, have dedicated their lives to art; and

WHEREAS, The Zhou Brothers immigrated to the United States in 1986 to continue their work on an international level and bring together Eastern and Western ideologies through art; and

 

WHEREAS, The Zhou Brothers have been recognized internationally; they have received distinguished awards and their culturally significant works have been featured at museums and exhibitions around the world; and

WHEREAS, The Zhou Brothers have collaborated in a unique way for over 40 years and hold live painting performances where audiences can experience their genius; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, they founded the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago to help promote, nurture and elevate artistic talent and create a thriving artistic community; and

 

WHEREAS, The Zhou Art Center has become the premier destination for international art and currently hosts over 50 resident artists and holds a monthly Third Friday show for new art exhibits; and

WHEREAS, In 2011, the Zhou Brothers were commissioned by President Barack Obama to create a painting called "8 U.S. Presidents and the Great Wall," which was presented to President Hu. Jintao of China, at the White House; and

WHEREAS, Among their many honors, the Zhou Brothers had October 16, 2014 proclaimed as Zhou Brothers Day in Illinois by Governor Patrick Quinn; and

WHEREAS, On October 16, 2015, the Zhou Brothers will host the City of Big Dreams to showcase the treasure of young artistic talent in Chicago and raise funds for those organizations that bring art to Chicago youth; and

WHEREAS, The Zhou Brothers have touched and enriched numerous lives over the years and provided a source of inspiration to the citizens of Chicagoland and around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, The Zhou Brothers have enriched their adopted home of Bridgeport and brought significant cultural and economic development to the area; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this fourteenth day of October, 2015, do hereby honor DaHuang and Shan Zuo Zhou for bringing important art to the City of Chicago and further enhancing the art scene in Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies ofthis resolution be presented to DaHuang Zhou and Shan Zuo Zhou as a token of our gratitude and esteem.
