RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called Maggie Nell Hadnot from this life to her eternal reward on January 4, 2015, at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised on Ms. Hadnot's passing by the Honorable Deborah Graham, Alderman of the 29th Ward; and
WHEREAS, known as "Lady Margo" to her loved ones, Maggie was born on Christmas day of 1934, the only child of Enos and Annie Mae Weathers of Harperville, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in her early years Maggie's family relocated to New Orleans, where she received her formal education; and
WHEREAS, in New Orleans Maggie met and married Leon Hadnot. The couple moved to Chicago and were blessed with the birth of six children: Leon Jr., Melissa, Sharon, Laterra, Angela and Darren; and
WHEREAS, after the death of Leon Hadnot, Maggie met and married Prez Carter. In a characteristic act of love and devotion, she adopted his six children, whom she treated as her very own: Kenny, Darnell, Dell, Dwayne, Renita and Frank; and
WHEREAS, after Prez Carter died, Nell met and married Freddie Thomas and also adopted and accepted as her own his daughter, Michelle; and
WHEREAS, Maggie's profound love was an expression of her deep faith. In 1971 she made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ and became active in Holy Covenant Church of God in Christ. Later she joined Holy Mission Church of God in Christ and served as an evangelist and missionary for many years, until her failing health prevented her from remaining in active participation in church matters; and
WHEREAS, her generosity and love led her to take in the homeless, feed the hungry, provide clothing for those in need, and offer financial help to the poor; and
WHEREAS, in addition to all her other activities, Maggie was a long-term, reliable employee. She worked for 10 years at Plasto Manufacturing Co., a manufacturer of plaster home decorations. Following that, Maggie was employed by Kraft-Oscar Mayer for over 23 years; and
WHEREAS, Maggie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two aunts, Mildred and Ester; her Hadnot children, Leon (Ruby), Melissa (Calvin), Sharon, Laterra (Dwayne), Angela and Darren; her Carter children, Darnell, Dell, Renita and Frank; her Thompson child, Michelle; 22 grandchildren; and her God-daughters, Lanese and Shirley; as well as many loving friends; and
WHEREAS, Maggie Nell "Lady Margo" Hadnot touched the lives of more people than can be recounted in one resolution, and her life and memory are deserving of honor; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 18th day of March, 2015, do hereby honor the life and memory of Maggie Nell "Lady Margo" Hadnot; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere condolences to her family and many friends and join them in mourning their loss; and
