WHEREAS, members of the City Council of Chicago wish to acknowledge Dr. Mark K. Colip on the occasion of his inauguration, on Saturday the eighteenth of May, as the sixth President of the Illinois College of Optometry; and
WHEREAS, members of the Chicago City Council have been informed of this important event by the Honorable Pat Dowell, Alderman of the 3rd Ward; and
WHEREAS, it is significant to note that Dr. Colip was chosen for this appointment subsequent to an extensive national search process that yielded a strong pool of talented candidates; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip has dedicated his career to improving optometric education and the profession of optometry, always seeking to insure the highest standard of service is provided to patients in need; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip has led multiple projects and campaigns in support of his goal of optometric excellence that have garnered unprecedented alumni and community support; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip's development efforts have resulted in a two-hundred and fifty percent increase in fundraising revenues for the College over the past nine years, representing the largest increase during any other time period in the College's history; and •
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip is dedicated to the sound financial management of the College, utilizing his business acumen and service prioritization to enhance essential fiscal strategies; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Dr. Colip has held multiple volunteer positions within the American Optometric Association, the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, and the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip has earned the recognition of Distinguished Scholar and Fellow by the National Academies of Practice for his extensive involvement and dedication to furthering practice, scholarship, and policy in support of inter-professional care; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip's devotion to helping the underserved is demonstrated through his participation in several international medical missions to Haiti, Central America, and South America; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Colip consistently manifests a deep-seated passion and commitment to the success ofthe College and its students, alumni, patients, employees, and community; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago assembled this twenty-second day of May 2019, do hereby offer our sincerest congratulations to Dr. Mark K. Colip on his inauguration as President of the Illinois College of Optometry and wish him continued success; and
