RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE LIFE OF MR. X.L. BRACY, JR.
WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his eternal reward, Mr. X.L. Bracy, Jr., outstanding citizen and beloved friend, Sunday, July 6, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics, has informed this august body of the passing of this fine citizen; and
WHEREAS, Born April 14, 1937 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, X.L. was the loving son of Mary Swanigan Bracy and X.L. Bracy, Sr. He was affectionately known as "Sonny" by his family members and friends. Sonny's formative education began in Mississippi. After moving to Chicago, as a young teenager, he attended DuSable High School. He completed his education as a Culinary Artist; and
WHEREAS, Sonny was a devout Christian and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was a longstanding member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Mississippi where he was a member of the male choir. As a founding charter member of the Brookhaven Mississippi Association, Incorporated (scholarship foundation), Sonny gave selflessly of his time and energies for more than thirty years. He was also a member of the Grand Masonic Lodge; and
WHEREAS, As a chef and restaurant co-proprietor/owner, Sonny's demeanor was always welcoming to customers and the savory food kept customers coming back for more. A man of many talents, Sonny pursued a career as a landscaper and was a friend to many. He later retired from Service Masters, a Chicago-based landscaping company, to spend more quality time with his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mr. X.L. Bracy, Jr., was a loving and caring son, brother, friend and neighbor who will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, His parents, four sisters, Pearl, Irene, Ann and Dorothy and two brothers, Excell and James, having predeceased him, Mr. X.L. "Sonny" Bracy, Jr., leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his children, Crystal Bracy, Dr. Anita Bledsoe (Chris) Gardner and X.L. Xavier Bracy; two grandchildren, Christopher Leon and Braeden Conner Gardner; brother, Isiah (Louise "Maggie") Bracy; sister, Mable McArthur; sister-in-law, Bertha Tillman; nephew cousin, Ca'rleton (Sheinette) Lewis; niece, Cynthia Linyard; niece cousin, Nathelina Hudson and a host of other relatives, friends, and his church family; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 30th day of July 2014 A.D., do hereby commemorate X.L. "Sonny" Bracy, Jr. for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family and loved ones.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of X.L. Bracy, Jr.
