Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith a resolution regarding our departing friend and colleague, Alderman
Dixon.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber are pleased to congratulate our friend and colleague, Alderman Sharon Denise Dixon, for her dedicated service to the people of the 24th Ward and the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Growing up in the Lawndale neighborhood, Alderman Dixon, an exemplary student, graduated from Manley High School in just three years, and in 1985, she earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Always industrious and self-sufficient, Alderman Dixon has worked in various jobs since the age of 13, beginning as a part-time CETA worker, and prior to being elected Alderman in 2007, worked for the Cook County Hospital, American Airlines, General Electric, Northwestern Hospital and the Ada S. McKinley social service agency; and
WHEREAS, As a tireless community activist, Alderman Dixon has given generously of her time, including starting and serving as the President ofthe 16th-18th Street Central Park Avenue Block Club, which organizes annual community events, food distribution for seniors, and provides school supplies for neighborhood children; and
WHEREAS, A valuable member of the City Council, Alderman Dixon has sponsored v numerous ordinances and initiatives for the safety and well-being of the residents of her Ward, and has served on the City Council Committees on Committees, Rules, and Ethics; Education and Child Development; Health; Housing and Real Estate; and Special Events and Cultural Affairs; and
WHEREAS, During her distinguished career, Alderman Dixon marshaled public and private resources to improve her Ward, and has been involved in numerous community-building activities, especially projects related to reducing crime and violence, neighborhood improvements, affordable housing, employment, and economic development; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected elected official and prominent leader, Alderman Dixon has been recognized and admired for her many contributions to the citizens of Chicago, her dedicated service in various civic and community organizations, and her commitment to many important causes; and
WHEREAS, All residents of the 24th Ward owe Alderman Dixon a debt of gratitude for her tireless efforts to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this fourth day of May, 2011, do hereby express our thanks and appreciation to Alderman Sharon Denise Dixon for her years of distinguished service as a member of this City Council, and do hereby express to her our good wishes for her future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alderman Dixon as a sign of our deep respect and good wishes.
