RESOLUTION CELEBRATING 90th BIRTHDAY OF LEROY W. HERRICK
WHEREAS, LeRoy W. Herrick celebrated his ninetieth birthday on August 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, this legislative body has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Mary O'Connor, Alderman of the 41st Ward; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Herrick, born August 1st' 1924, has seen many changes in his lifetime, both in his community and globally; and
WHEREAS, after serving his country as a young man in the United States Army during World War II, he returned home and married his wife Marilyn Herrick, to whom he has been married sixty-eight years; truly demonstrating to his family and community that despite changing and challenging times, dedication and love prevail; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 for sixty-eight years, beloved by his colleagues and union brothers, retired from the City of Chicago in 1986 from his position as Chief Electrician at O'Hare International Aiport; and
WHEREAS, since retirement, LeRoy has enjoyed spending time with his family and staying active in his neighborhood and St. Monica's Parish, admired by many in his community for his commitment to his family, life of service, and strong work ethic; and
WHEREAS, always remaining modest and humble about his years of service in the United States Army, he recently received an overdue honor from the French government, and was awarded the Legion of Honor Medal in May of 2014 for his service and courage during World War II; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of September 2014, do hereby extend warmest wishes for a continued life of happiness and health, and asks the entire city of Chicago and 41st Ward community to join in the celebration of LeRoy Herrick on this wonderful occasion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to LeRoy Herrick.
