MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom and Judgment has called to her Eternal Reward Sylvia Carson-Doty, beloved citizen and friend, Tuesday, December 2, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been notified of her passing by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
 
WHEREAS, Sylvia was born to the union of the late Joseph and Lula Mae Wright-Carson, Friday October 2, 1936 in the family home on South Ashland Avenue in Chicago's great Morgan Park neighborhood. She was the third child ofthe eight children that blessed the Carson Family. Sylvia accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the family of The Lord at an early age. She became a member of Christ Universal Temple Church in 1976. Sylvia graduated from John D. Schoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High School. After graduation she continued her education as a Dental Assistant, an EKG Technician and received certificates from Jackson Hewitt Computerized Tax Course; and
 
WHEREAS, Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Sylvia and Carson Brooks were united in Holy Matrimony in 1953 and to this union her son Gregory Brooks was born, she later married Walter Doty and to that union her daughter Karen Marie Doty was born; and
 
WHEREAS, Sylvia Carson-Doty's career started at Goldblatts and ended after thirty-three years of dedicated service with the Cook County Assessor's Office, under the direct leadership of Thomas Hynes, the Cook County Assessor at that time; and
 
WHEREAS, Sylvia Carson-Doty was a vital member of her family and community and will be sorely missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Gregory and Karen; five grandchildren, Carson Brooks, Katerria Doty, Tiffany Hubbert, Kiarra Allison and Kenari Allison; two great grandchildren, Timerria Daniel and WinterStarr; two sisters, Ida M. Allen and LaDonna Nash; one brother, Ronald Carson and a host of other relatives and friends. Sylvia's loving parents, two sisters, Juanita Gooden and JoAnn Hawkins, two brothers, Joseph Carson and Rudolph Flores and a very special friend, William "Bill" Reed preceded her in death; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of December 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Sylvia Carson-Doty and extend to her family and friends our sincere condolences.
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mrs. Sylvia Carson-Doty.
