MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF CHARLES ROY LEE

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his heavenly home, Mr. Charles Roy Lee, a beloved citizen, faithful man of God and 8th Ward resident, on October 27, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, 1, Alderman Michelle A. Harris, and on behalf of the residents of the 8th Ward and my fellow colleagues of the Chicago City Council have informed this august body of the passing of Mr. Lee; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on January 27, 1930 to parents Mr. Roy Lee and Mrs. Mae Elizabeth (nee Barker) Lee; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was the eldest boy in his family, and was formally educated in the Hot Spring County Public School System in Malvern, Arkansas. As a young adult, he moved to Chicago in 1948 to explore better opportunities, and was drafted into the US Armed Services in 1951. There he served in the Korean War Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1953; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Alma Tyler. To this loving and enduring union, two sons, Gregory and Kevin were born. They recently celebrated fifty-nine (59) years of marital bliss.

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a vital, active and respectable citizen who resided in the 8th Ward community for some sixty-five (65) years: and further, Mr. Lee was a loyal and faithful member of Coppin African Methodist (AME) Episcopal Church, which he joined with his late sisters, Lois Gee and Rosa Hunter. He remained faithful to the Coppin AME Church family, and he also gave strong support to his wife Alma and her commitment to the St. James African Methodist Church Family; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a highly capable and dedicated employee of the U.S. Steel Company, where he put in thirty-two (32) years of professional service. His work career started at the Spiegel's Mail Catalogue Company. Mr. Lee concluded his tour of duty on this earthly plane as a retired man who was an avid gardener, as well as an accomplished handyman 'jack-of-all-trades' around his home; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a warm and compassionate man, who gave selflessly of his time and energy to family members, friends, church members and neighbors alike. He will be sorely missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and joyful enthusiasm for life will live on in those who knew and loved him; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a vital and active individual. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Lois Gee, Rose Hunter and Mildred Buckner, as well as two brothers: Jimmy and Dan Lee. Mourning their loss of Mr. Lee and cherishing his memory his beloved wife, Mrs. Alma Lee; two sons, Gregory and Kevin Lee; one sister, Dorothy Hawkins; one brother Bobby (Anna) Lee; Sister-in-Law, Geneva (Cleveland) Dailey; and Brother-in-Law, Roy Taylor; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends; now, therefore,

is resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mr.

Charles Roy Lee.

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 18th day of November, 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Charles Roy Lee and extend to his family, friends, neighbors and church members our sincere condolences.
