A Resolution Honoring the Life of Valiie Smith-Wheeler

WHEREAS, The members of this City Council Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Vallie Smith-Wheeler, an outstanding citizen ofthe Austin community in Chicago, by 37lh Ward Alderman Emma Mitts. Recently, Vallie Smith-Wheeler concluded her life's race as a strong Christian woman of faith and family who has received her crown of righteousness.
WHEREAS, Vallie Smith-Wheeler was born in Hughes, Arkansas on November 8, 1948, the daughter of Mr. Charlie Smith and Mrs. Mamie R. Smith. She was from a loving, close-knit family of seven siblings, (one deceased) including four brothers: Kary (Krystal) Smith, Charles (Patricia) Smith, Alfonzo (Reiko) Smith; and Alonzo Smith, and two sisters Joyce Smith and Patricia (Willie) Warren; and
WHEREAS, Vallie Smith-Wheeler grew up with her family during her pre-teenage years on Chicago's west side. She graduated from John Marshall High School and attended college. Ms. Smith married Ivory Wheeler on June 16, 1972, and together they had three (3) children: Leonard Smith, Veronica Smith and Ivory Smith; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Vallie Smith-Wheeler was employed by the Office of the Cook County State's Attorney, where she served with honor and distinction for over twenty-six years. A staunchly faithful member of the Chicago Land Christian Center, she was also well-known for her enthusiastic love of cooking and the culinary arts. Further, she loved cheerful colors and she thoroughly enjoyed her all too rare opportunities to travel with her family, throughout Illinois, the United States and the Caribbean.
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council ofthe City ofChicago, assembled this 8th day of May 2013, do hereby applaud her exceptional life on the behalf of the citizens of Chicago; and
