RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Fred A. Ruben a/k/a/ "Coach Ruben has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and,

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Ariel E. Reboyras; and,

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago on July 17, 1926, Fred A. Ruben was the son ofthe late Joseph and Sarah, nee Satenstein; beloved husband of 67 years of Betty, nee Dermer; devoted father of Carol (Jeffrey) Clark and David (Josie Howard) Ruben; cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Chad) Kinney, Courtney (Justin) Opsahl, Emily (Tyler) Opperman, Joshua (Katherine Dorn) Clark, William (Lisa Daul) Ruben, Jamison Ruben (Nicole Bono), and Nicholas Ruben; adoring great-grandfather of Ellis Opperman; treasured brother of Lois (the late Al) Weber; caring son-in-law of the late Yetta and Abe Dermer; dear brother-in-law of Marilyn (the late Harold) Dermer; loving uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews; and,

WHEREAS, Fred Ruben was an Army World War II Veteran who served our country from October 10, 1944 thru August 16, 1946. He was part ofthe 80th Infantry Division, one ofthe longest fighting divisions in World War II. During his military career, Fred Ruben helped liberate English prisoners of war in a Munich Nazi Camp; and,
WHEREAS, After serving his country, Fred Ruben became a Chicago Public School physical education and health teacher, guidance counselor, and football, baseball, and swim coach at Lake View High School for 25 years. He was also a football coach at Sullivan High School for 10 years; drivers' education instructor at Mather High School; and he also volunteer at Highland Park Hospital for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement from Lake View High School, and due to his love for the students he taught and guided, he founded the Lake View Alumni Association. It was his personal project and passion to keep as many alumni in touch as possible; and,
