Resolution: Raymond Nihlean

WHEREAS. The Members of the City Council of Chicago wish to recognize the many accomplishments and the passing of Raymond Nihlean; and

WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean departed this present life on Friday, November 11th, 2022; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of his passing by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nihlean was a good Samaritan, philanthropist, and dedicated community member to Edgewater; and

WHEREAS, the legacy left by Mr. Nihlean is one distinguished by his care for community, especially for young people, and he spent years mentoring many young people in their creative endeavors in order to build their self-confidence; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nihlean's philanthropy was a major factor in securing city funding for Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management training program, which offered local business owners and entrepreneurs knowledge on how to continue building their company; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nihlean provided resources to entrepreneurs through the Edgewater Uptown Builders Association and other community organizations, finding opportunities to build community resources including state-of-the-art sound and visual equipment he engineered to facilitate effective communication; and

WHEREAS, as artists were working on the Bryn Mawr Historic District bricolage, Mr. Nihlean fueled artists through lunches and treats, in addition to donating money and materials to the project, which led to the wedding photo of Mr. and Mrs. Nihlean being memorialized in the art wall; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nihlean was a beloved husband to his wife Tina, a cherished brother to his siblings Damian, Mary, and Juli, and will be remembered for his unwavering joy and immeasurable generosity to his community; and

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this day of December 14th, 2022, do hereby express our sorrow on ...
