RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Milton John Card has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Aurora, Milton John Card was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and a longtime member of veterans organizations; and
WHEREAS, Milton John Card joined the United States Navy after graduating from East Aurora High School in 1939 and re-enlisted in April of 1941; and
WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, Milton John Card was stationed at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Tracy when the Japanese attacked the United States; and
WHEREAS, Milton John Card was among sailors who helped to recover bodies from the wreckage of the USS Arizona; and
WHEREAS, Milton John Card continued to see action and later survived the sinking of a destroyer near New Guinea; and
WHEREAS, Following the war, Milton John Card opened Milt's Barber Shop in Aurora and worked as a barber until he was eighty years old; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Milton John Card serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Milton John Card to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Milton John Card imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2012, do hereby commemorate Milton John Card for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Milton John Card.
