Title: Tribute to late Thomas "Joel" Johnson

WHEREAS, On Sunday, December 15, 2013, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Thomas "Joel" Johnson to his eternal journey; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Joel Johnson was born on September 24, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the sixth of seven children born to the union of Thomas and Lottie Johnson, who together were a solid tower of strength instilling in him the principles that shaped and guided his life; and

WHEREAS, He attended our Lady of Lourdes, grammar school on the Westside of Chicago where he confessed to Christ and was baptized. He attended St. Leo High School, where he was a straight "A" student; excelling in all subjects. After graduating high school, he was hired at the United States Postal Service where he dedicated forty plus years of service until he retired; and

WHEREAS, On March 20, 1971, he married his soul mate Cassaundra, the love of his life until he made his transition; and

WHEREAS, Joel was an all-around family person, a no nonsense kind of guy, and very competitive especially with his brother, Rollin. He took a father role to many of his nieces and nephews; he assigned each a different name and gave wonderful "Uncle Joe" advice. He never hesitated to help a person in need; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lottie Johnson; four sisters, Ruth, Tomette, Betty and Joanne; and leaves behind to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife, Cassaundra; one sister, Louise (Harold); one brother, Rollin; three generations of nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, close family and many friends; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this second day of April 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Thomas "Joel" Johnson and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympa...
