RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, the second-oldest oldest law school in die State of Illinois, celebrated its 125th Anniversary at a special gala event held on Saturday, February 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this auspicious milestone by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The roots of the founding of this prestigious institution date back to the establishment of Chicago College of Law in 1888 and the Kent School of Law in 1895; and
WHEREAS, The two institutions merged in 1900 to become the Chicago-Kent College of Law and a subsequent merger in 1969 with the Illinois Institute of Technology gave recognition to the need for a partnership between legal education and science and technology to prepare students to face the challenges of a complex society; and
WHEREAS, The IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law has enjoyed a long and rich history marked by innovation and excellence; and
WHEREAS, The IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law has grown to a current enrollment of more than one-thousand students, and maintains a large full-time faculty and an adjunct faculty made up of practicing attorneys and members of the judiciary; and
WHEREAS, The IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1936, became a member of the Association of American Law Schools in 1951 and a member of die Order of the Coif in 1989; and
WHEREAS, In 1992 the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law moved into a state-of-the-art ten-story building located at 565 West Adams Street in downtown Chicago which is equipped with the latest technology and includes a five-story library, a complete courtroom, and ample space for classroom and student activities; and
WHEREAS, Distinguished alumni of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law include Chicago Defender Founder Robert Sengstacke Abbott, Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke, Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, Illinois ...
