Title: Congratulations extended to Police Lieutenant John W. Francis on retirement

WHEREAS, John W. Francis, an outstanding public servant and member of his community, retires as a Lieutenant of the Chicago Police Department after thirty-six years of dedicated service to the people of this city; and
 
WHEREAS, John W. Francis was promoted to Detective in 1986, Sergeant in 1991, and Lieutenant in 2001. He served with distinction and dedication in the 001st, 008th, 022nd, 005th, 009th, 021st and 006th Districts, as well as Units 050, 701, 621, and 622. Lieutenant Francis was awarded five Department Commendations, fifty-two Honorable Mentions, Fitness Award, Unit Meritorious Performance Award, and ten Complimentary Letters; and
 
WHEREAS, The police have the very essential job of ensuring the safety and order of their community. This sworn officer has an important role in protecting lives and property, maintaining order and enforcing all laws accurately; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward, has apprised this august body of John W. Francis' significant milestone; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this twelfth day of December, 2012 A.D., do hereby salute John W. Francis for his many years of dedicated service to the safety of this city and extend our very best wishes for health, happiness, and success in any future endeavor.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to John W. Francis.
