RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Michael R. Quinlan, a widely admired business and civic leader, has officially retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Loyola University Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A Chicago native, Michael R. Quinlan graduated from Fenwick High School and earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and psychology and a master's in business administration from Loyola University Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Michael R. Quinlan began his career in the mailroom of McDonald's Corporation in 1963, and
WHEREAS, Michael R. Quinlan worked his way through the ranks to become President and Chief Executive Officer in 1987 and Chairman of the Board in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Following his long and illustrious tenure, Michael R. Quinlan, stepped down as Chairman of McDonald's in 1999 and became Chairman of Loyola University's Board of Directors where he oversaw the hiring of the institution's current President, the Reverend Michael J. Garanzini, S.J.; and
WHEREAS, In 2004 Loyola University dedicated the new Life Sciences Education and Research Center to Michael R. and Marilyn C. Quinlan in recognition of their leadership and generosity; and
WHEREAS, Loyola University bestowed one of its highest awards, the Sword of Loyola, on Michael R. Quinlan in 2005; and
WHEREAS, In 2012 Loyola University Chicago renamed its business school for Michael R. Quinlan after he contributed the largest alumnus gift of $40 million to the school; and
WHEREAS, Michael R. Quinlan has inspired many with his tireless commitment to excellence and dedication to higher education; and
WHEREAS, In all of his roles, Michael R. Quinlan has shared his spirit of leadership, wisdom and insight with many in Chicago and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Michael R. Quinlan will remain involved as the Honorary Chair of Loyola University Chicago's Board of Directors; now, therefore
