Resolution
Whereas, Mather LifeWays started as an experiment sixteen years ago with the purpose of creating hospitality, meaningful experiences, and a sense of belonging to 40 older adults; and
Whereas, Mather LifeWays now engages over 4,200 individual older adults annually in the 48th ward and throughout the greater Chicago area; and
Whereas, Mather LifeWays works with organizations in the community to bring programs such as fitness classes and computer classes as well as other social engagement opportunities to where older adults naturally live and gather; and
Whereas, Mather LifeWays' monthly luncheon, which draws nearly 350-400 older adults, has been a source for boundless opportunities for engagement and many meaningful moments that create close relationships; and
Whereas, Mather LifeWays, under the leadership of Kathy Bavaro, has worked effectively and tirelessly with organizations in the community to identify and fill gaps in our city's aging services; and
Whereas, Mather LifeWays has made significant contributions to the community in the
48tnward.
Now, be it resolved, that the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 14th day of December, 2016, do hereby honor Mather Lifeways for its unparalleled contributions to the older adult community of Edgewater and the city of Chicago.
Be it further resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mather Lifeways.
