RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dwayne Andreas has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 98; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dwayne Andreas was a widely admired business leader and the loving and devoted husband of the late Dorothy, nee Inez; and
WHEREAS, Dwayne Andreas was the much-adored father of Michael, Terry and Sandra, the grandfather of nine and the great-grandfather of 23 to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of a farmer, Dwayne Andreas was raised in Iowa and attended Wheaton College until his sophomore year; and
WHEREAS, Dwayne Andreas rose to become the head of Archer Daniels Midland, the giant Illinois-based grain processing, marketing and distribution company; and
WHEREAS, Archer Daniels Midland produces soybean oil, ethanol, animal feed, cocoa products, Vitamin E, corn syrup sweetener and a host of other products; and
WHEREAS, Under the visionary leadership of Dwayne Andreas, Archer Daniels Midland grew to become a globally successful corporation known as "the supermarket to the world"; and
WHEREAS, The Decatur-based company moved to Chicago in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Dwayne Andreas served as Chief Executive Officer of Archer Daniels Midland from 1970 to 1997 and stepped down as Chairman in 1999; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dwayne Andreas serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dwayne Andreas imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby commemorate Dwayne Andreas for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
