SALUTING THE PALACE GRILL ON ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Original Palace Grill, an outstanding restaurant and an icon in its West Side community, is observing its 75th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Palace Grill had been originally named DeMars Grill when it was established in 1938, but was renamed in 1950 when it was purchased by Gus and Mike Alpoginas. The Lemperis family has owned this delectable diner since 1955 and the hospitable current owner, George Lemperis, has been working there since 1979. When he became its manager in 1998, he expanded its capacity. With its comfortable seating, diners are now able to enjoy a delicious meal. Its hearty breakfast has been voted the best in the city by Chicago Sun Times food critic, Pat Bruno; and
WHEREAS, The Palace Grill has seen a variety of famous customers ranging from local radio and TV personalities like Oprah Winfrey, to government officials such as former Vice-president AI Gore, the Prime Minister of Russia and the previous Mayor of this city, Richard M. Daley. It is also a favored eatery of the Chicago Blackhawks, and their coach, Joel Quenneville; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Walter Burnett, Jr., Alderman ofthe 27th Ward, and the Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman ofthe 2nd Ward, have apprised this august body of the significant milestone of this venerable community, pillar whose motto, is, "Where Good Friends Meet. Since 1938"; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 24th Day of July, 2013 AD, do hereby salute the Original Palace Grill as it celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, and express our best wishes for outstanding continued success for decades to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to George Lemperis, operator of the Original Palace Grill.
