RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A loving mother, strong woman, and member of Chicago's finest, Evelyn Laboy was born in Puerto Rico where she lived with her parents and two younger brothers. At the age of 3, her family moved to the northside of Chicago to seek better opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn Laboy was a member of the first graduating class of Roberto Clemente high school and eventually worked as a financial administrator. She soon began working toward her degree, where she would sometimes have to bring along her young daughter to class; and,
WHEREAS, One day, Evelyn's younger brother, a member of the CPD, encouraged her to take the police entrance exam. She had never really considered a life in law enforcement but fate intervened and she made the decision to study and take the exam. The day she graduated from the police academy was a source of pride for her parents, brothers, and daughters; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn Laboy began at the 13th district, working nights while managing a busy household during the day. Evelyn would fight crime at night but during the day, her most important job was being a great mother to her 3 children. She was eventually transferred to the 25th district and into the community relations department, and,
WHEREAS, After working hard for 25 years with the CPD, Evelyn Laboy has made the decision to retire. Full of life and a wide variety of interests (everything from home decorating to riding Harley's), her retirement is not just the end of a great career but the beginning of a new adventure. She is a source of pride and inspiration to her children who are grateful that their mom was a Chicago police officer, and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this first day of November 2016 A.D., do hereby extend to Evelyn Laboy, our sincere and grateful appreciation for her outstanding record of personal and professional achievement, and our best wishes to her and her f...
